Cleantech and Green Urbanization Development Forum Holds in Chongqing

A cleantech forum was held during the official and business delegation’s visit headed by Minister Jyri Häkämies on 11th May, 2012 in Chongqing. With a theme of Cleantech and Green Urbanization Development, the forum gathered leading cleantech experts from Finland and China to discuss issues of mutual interest and cooperation projects in Western and Central China. Outotec, DigiEcoCity, Metso Automation representing the business delegates gave speeches at the forum.

A strategic cooperation agreement between Finnish Environmental Cluster for China and Chongqing Liyang Green Industry Development Co., Ltd was signed.

Western and Central China are a great focus of China’s 12th Five Year Plan. Chongqing and its surroundings make up a frontline under the “Go West” policy, experiencing a fast growth rate and showing great business potential. With Finnair opening a new route to Chongqing, inland China is now directly connected to Europe.

“There are almost 300 Finnish companies in China, many of them based in the coastal areas of China and they are currently looking for new markets. The dynamic city of Chongqing with an enormous growth rate last year of 16 per cent, will definitely be an interesting option for Finnish companies looking for new business opportunities, partners and cooperation possibilities”, said Mr. Jyri Häkämies, Minister of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Empolyment and The Economy of Finland at the forum.

“We are proud and grateful for this opportunity to discuss potential cooperation with our Chinese counterparts to increase environmental protection, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Cleantech is a prominent item in the Finnish Government’s program. It is our export sector with the most growth”, Mr. Häkämies added.

Finland is a global leader in cleantech business. In Finland, cleantech is a highly diversified sector including more than 2,000 enterprises. For decades, Finnish cleantech companies have solved environmental challenges, making the country a global leader in energy efficiency, clean industrial processes and bioenergy.

Other areas of expertise are measuring, analysis and automation, renewable energy, waste management as well as water and waste water treatment and air protection. The national goal is to develop the sector into a new cornerstone industry.

“The cooperation between Finland and China is growing dramatically in the cleantech field. The value of exports to China is expected to increase 20% annually during the coming ten years. The cleantech strategy towards China will be published soon, tentatively in June of  this year. Finland is willing to make contributions towards boosting the green urbanization development and environmental success in China with leading Finnish cleantech expertise and know-how”, said Mr. Santtu Hulkkonen, Executive Director of Cleantech Finland.
