Naziaty M Yaacob – Managing projects on heritage, conservation and sustainability

Naziaty M Yaacob is the head of Environmental and Urban Design. She manages research and outputs of projects on heritage, conservation, and sustainability.

“To ensure the success of the projects, I make sure our researchers work closely with relevant stakeholders, for example, heritage NGOs, disabled persons’ organizations and government agencies. Our researchers consist of both lecturers and students.”

She is also the founder of ZaSve, a social enterprise focusing on universal design products and services.

“We aim to provide solutions for accessibility, universal design, public transportation, built environment, where much of the work is done in the context of developing countries. At present, we operate under Universiti Malaya’s Commercialization and Innovation Centre.”

She has vast experience in access audit training and universal design. She is also a resource person for United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

“I received my architectural education and training in Malaysia and the UK. In 2009 I completed a doctoral thesis titled ‘Accessibility to historic public buildings: development processes in England and Wales’. I have been on the faculty of architecture at Universiti Malaya since 1997.”
