Rune Kirt – “Design thinking and visualization is a fundamental focus for me in every innovation project”

Rune Kirt is the CEO of KIRT x THOMSEN – a ‘Visual R&D Consultancy’ supporting innovation projects of green technologies from the earliest stage of project definition to the later stages of getting it commercialized.

“New ideas and innovation are solutions to real problems. Ways we can do things better or in new ways. Within the green transition and sustainability, there are very complex challenges need to be solved, while the innovation process is complex with multiple stakeholders. I am an architect and designer. Solving challenges are in complex innovation setup is where I can bring new tools and methods to the table and actually make a difference. Bringing new ideas alive, faster, better and more innovative.”

Rune has a background as architect and industrial designer. Therefore, design thinking and visualization is a fundamental focus for him in every innovation project. His core competences are to gather user insight, generate ideas and structure complex data, make it visual simple to grasp for both the team member as well as the investor. To think out of the box in disruptive or radical innovation is a key driver, making science fiction reality.

Rune has worked in Designit; today’s largest European design consultancy, and several years employed at Vestas Technology R&D; the world’s leading wind turbine manufacture.

He has also involved in innovation projects in the cleantech ranging from startups to multinational enterprises, with companies within wind, solar, wave, smart grid, electrical vehicles, and new era airships.

“Envision the ideas. Create visual artifacts, such as animation, graphics, sketches and models. That will align partners and stakeholders, and allows new discussion and commitment to the new solutions. Think radical ideas! Don’t be afraid of suggesting ‘crazy’ or futuristic ideas. That’s when real change happens.”
