Why Liski is joining White Winters

Liski’s motivation for joining the White Winters program is rooted in its commitment to long-term environmental responsibility.

“We see this partnership as a way to certify our sustainability investments, strengthen our brand, and develop our network,” says COO Carlo Fernandez.

“It’s also an opportunity to accelerate projects that truly support climate and environmental goals.”

”We are thrilled to welcome Liski to the White Winters family. Their decades of leadership in sports safety, along with an ambitious sustainability strategy, make them a perfect fit. Together, we are accelerating the transition toward a low-carbon, high-impact future for winter sports,” says Santtu Hulkkonen, Program Director, White Winters.

Concrete steps toward sustainability

Liski is already taking measurable steps to reduce its environmental impact. Its current sustainability strategy includes:

Extending product lifecycles:

  • Enhancing product quality to limit microplastic dispersion, particularly in mountain areas.
  • Integrating recycled materials (foam, polycarbonate, polyester, PVC) into production.
  • Reusing waste materials from manufacturing.
  • Generating solar energy to cover at least 50% of internal needs.
  • Reducing energy use and optimizing transport volumes.

Liski’s sustainable product line includes:

  • Bibs and banners made from 100% recycled PE.
  • Foam safety mattresses with up to 67% recycled foam.
  • Poles with up to 50% recycled PC or PVC.

The Finnish company Snow Secure is also distributed globally through Liski’s network, helping ski resorts open on time and ensuring races can be held as planned worldwide.

Building a sustainable future for skiing

While progress is clear, Liski acknowledges that significant challenges remain.

These include expanding the commercial offering of environmentally friendly products, increasing solar energy production, and scaling the use of recycled raw materials across all product lines.

Liski shares the White Winters vision of a resilient and sustainable ski industry. To achieve this, they emphasize key changes such as encouraging public transportation access to resorts, reducing resort energy consumption, particularly in snowmaking as well as applying circular economy its fullest in everything related to ski industry.

“Liski brings both expertise and credibility to the White Winters platform. Their involvement underscores the growing momentum across the industry for systemic change. We are proud to have such a reputable and forward-thinking company join our shared mission,” says Janne Leskinen, CEO of Ski Sport Finland and one of the initiative’s key visionaries, and newly appointed chair of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup committee.
